Rider Diary: Clay Murfet…A great end to my US campaign

l_6832690f335666ab3f85d03f6ddcc199So,  it has been forever,  Maybe i should introduce myself again???

Maybe Later…..

It has been 2 or months since i wrote last.  Sorry for the delay, been busy putting on clinics on the Dancefloor.
Last time i wrote,  it was the Independence Day Grand Prix in Colorado… July 4th i believe….

Since then i have collected some UCI points in Madison’s and Scratch races.   I raced in Seattle in late July for the FSA Grand Prix.
Very successful.

Me and Rich SKANK won the madison in great style and i placed 4th in a very very long Miss “N” Out.  Try racing on a 400metre track outdoor with NO banking and with 40 riders on the track… It made for a very long race….1 rider out every lap…. Not Smart…That was the first night…

Second night was Scratch race first and Points race later on…  This made for a long night and a few minutes of thinking about what gear i was going to ride…

l_cf29720542e9032df826c6eacd035e78Of course anyone with a  brain knows you ride a bigger gear in a  Scratch race than a points race..   I do NOT go down in gear after just riding it.  It gives me trouble and J-Me is 100 percent against it..  So i ride my usual scratch race gear,  and i think 49 riders started the scratch race.

Was fast and single file on bottom of track..  I was feeling pretty crappy mid race,  and after My teammate Skanky attacked i knew i could take it EZ for a while…. I gave him high 5 after he was caught and just told him to RELAX…

A group of about 5 riders some how miraculously escaped off the front and no-one seemed to want to chase.   I initiated the chase to try and bring things back…

The 44 other riders in the race seemed to not care,  so with 3 laps to go we are practicarly racing for 6th place..  Pretty disappointing considering it was 300 bucks to win.   I jump on Cam McKinnon who is a very fast Canadian and he launches with 2 laps to go.. He was moving and my gear didn’t seem so big anymore….

We are absolutely flying and with half a lap to go it looks like we are gonna catch them..  I step out in turn 3 and come home in 2nd nearly catching the winner in the process.

Points Race i Kept my scratch race gear on,  which wasn’t so bad until after the first sprint that i get third in.. I struggled right until 10 laps to go when i win the second to last sprint and get second in the final sprint.  This gives me 4th place overall only 1 point behind 3rd.  I was actually pretty happy considering i was dead as a door nail for 50 laps….

l_1d242886d50911fbc047b81720714af6FSA Grand Prix was a success,  Making my wallet look fat again…..
Back to Pennsylvania after 2 months away from my home in Kutztown…..  I take a day or 2 off before having to start up again and head down to North Carolina for some Pro Crits.

I drive down with the SKANK and Erica Allar (who just recently signed with Aarons Professional road team).  We settle into our nice hotel room and make our way over for our first race.  Things didn’t go so well for Skank and Erica….

My race was ok,  i think only 80 started in this Twilight crit.  Was pretty fast and i wasn’t going to do anything with my Junior gears on my bike….   I get spat with half a lap to go which wasn’t so bad.. Was pretty happy with it…  Next day was in Statesville,  6 corner crit and once again was a twilight crit.

A few good Pro teams race,   Jittery Joes, Rite Aid.   I was feeling great for the first half until i had to close 3 gaps, thanks to Bill Short.  Thanks BILLY….

I pull the pin with 20 minutes left or so.. My confidence wasn’t very high at this stage and was pretty worried about my First NRC race in Hanes Park in 2 days time…

I have a rest the next day and head to Hanes Park to race my first NRC race…. 150 starters,  ALL the best pro teams in America and Poor me on a 52×14 gear…

l_99fa42daa47e477fb9a36b464bbbcb5aIt was i reckon about 40 degrees at least on this day….  I get in a  couple of breakaways which didn’t stick.. I relax in the main bunch, until someone decides to slam on their brakes. This caused a domino effect until i get slammed in the ASS end.I didn’t like it very much,  the way i see it the backside is an EXIT only.. I stay upright but get back in fine… Long Story SHORT,  i finish in the main bunch about 50th..

Pretty happy about it to be honest,  but not happy about the 8 hour drive back to PA straight after……..

I raced the track in T-Town for the last 3 friday nights. This is Pro racing,    me and the SKANK finished 3rd in the first madison we raced…

I got in a group of 5 who lapped the field in the Artie Greenburg memorial scratch race… 10 miler was very quick,  finishing well..
Madison Cup was the last event for my Track Summer…    It was super fast with i think about 20 teams started.  We were probably the 5th or 6th best madison team out there but lost points in the individual Miss n Out and the scratch race…

We weren’t sitting very well on the overall table after a 60 lap Madison and a Scratch race and Miss n Out… So in the final 100 lap madison all we could do was to be aggressive.   We placed in a few sprints,   this was hard with the Italians dominating and the colavita and rite aid boys attacking non stop…

I nearly died at least 10 times with dodgy teams not knowing what they’re doing.. We ended up finishing 10th overall,   we probably should of finished 5th or 6th.

BUT should of, could of, would of…  Anyone can talk the talk,  but unless you can walk the walk, SHUT UP, i say…

That is my American Journey over for another year..
Ill be back in full force next April racing for a new team…

I’m back in Tazzy running a muck with the boys…  Having some time off,  letting my body recover…  Until Next Time,   VIVA and Blast…

Sorry for my Diary being so Rushed….

I am super Bizzy doing Nothing At the Moment
