Stage 2 – Sunday, July 8: Road Races & Junior criteriums
Bobridge continues winning run, cold day for all riders.
Full results, report & photos.
Cold conditions greeted the riders in the Canberra tour on what was day two of the 3 day tour.
For the first time, the juniors (U17 and below) came out to battle out in the near freezing conditions from the start location at the Stromlo Forest Park.
Jack Bobridge continued to dominate the U19 race, winning convincingly after being in a break away with what is being called this years junior world team pursuit team (Bobridge, Travis Meyer, Leigh Howard & Glenn O’Shea). The 4 broke away on the ascent out of the Urriara Crossing and built up a strong and decisive lead.
Grace Sulzberger of Tasmania proved to be the strongest in the first road race today taking the win from Australian team member Ruth Corset. Sulzbeger won the bunch sprint of 5 after the group got away mid way through the race. Lauren Kitchen placed in 3rd and moved closer to Carlee Taylor on GC.
Mathew Clarke took a huge win in the first stage of the U17 tour over the Kiwi Tom Findlay and Tom Richards. Clarke crossed the line at the SFP 13 seconds clear of second place.
Watch out for the two Cure sisters from Tasmania. Amy and Sarah came in to fight it out with just under 2 minutes advantage on the field. The two riders dominated the race with Sarah taking the win from her older sister Amy.
